ARMAN (1928 - 2005)
Robot portrait of Paul Van Hoeydonck, 1966 Accumulation of various objects Signed, dated and dedicated lower left H: 90 cm W: 61 cm D: 20 cm This work is listed in the archives of Madame Denyse Durand-Ruel under number 1223 Arman (1928- 2005) The artists who tear down posters in the street, the one who traps the paintings, the one who makes mechanics with recovered objects or the one who shoots with a rifle on prepared supports, and I, we have one thing in common: the object. Originally from Nice, Arman quickly left the province to study in Paris at the Louvre school. During these years he met Yves Klein, and formed with him and Pierre Restany the group of new realists in 1960. He painted until 1954 and from then on devoted himself to his sculptures made from accumulation, combustion and destruction of ordinary objects which will bring his glory. It was only during the last years of his life that he returned to painting, which was taught to him by his father in Nice. ©D.R
